Eric Trine is an artist/ designer based out of Portland, Oregon. Through furniture and product design, Trine is also able to express his art and creativity that can be seen in his colorful pallet, his construction methods, and his photo shoot sets. He designs and builds all his own pieces which constitutes a fine blend between multiple materials and design/ art influences. I discovered Trine through instagram, where he was blowing up on feeds such as Dwell Magazine. I started following him and quickly became a fan of his powder coated metal frames (see pictures below) that have a light playfulness to them.
Then several weeks ago I was able to meet Trine and see his work in person. His designs are clean and well crafted which is impressive because he is doing all the work himself. His versatile Rod Weave outdoor/indoor hybrid leather weaved chair affords the potential for many different uses and colour schemes. The geometric Ally-Oop wire pedestals/side table (see pictures below) acts as a functional art piece that, to me, is the fine line between sculptural art and practical design. I like these pieces because they create dimensionality and illusion through perspective with their geometrical shapes.
If you are a design lover looking to add an addition to your patio or backyard so you can spend your summer nights near the fire, or enjoying a fresh beverage, I highly recommend Eric Trine’s products. I am personally looking to cop a couple Alley-Oops for my new place, I’m thinking they could maybe go in my bathroom for a nice plant or besides my bed as a side table!
