Easy Sundays, our dedicated day to music and sounds. Everything you need to keep the good vibes going and the soul grooving.

“Don’t change a thing” from Yannis Rianta is our little discovery of the week. This Montreal singer is clearly inspired by the 80′s, and we can’t express how excited we feel about these retro funky sounds with the new album of Daft Punk coming out soon! The tune has every quality of a good electro pop 80′s song, featuring great voice and groovy sounds, and a catchy chorus. Plus it’s VERY sexy! Now listen to it, and we promise you, you’ll have it in your head all day long!

The following clip is the debut video for Rianta’s forthcoming album.

Have a nice Sunday!

Artists – Daft Punk

“Artists”, our dedicated posts to artists and artworks that inspire us in our everyday lives.

The thing with Daft Punk is that, whatever categories we try to label them, there never seem to be enough. They are musicians, yes, but mostly, they are influencers. The way they cease music and inspire a whole generation while being “mainstream” and yet managing to stay soulful and true to themselves is the reason why they are more than just DJs, or producers, or musicians. They are Artists.

As you probably already know, Daft Punk will be releasing a new album in the next few months. They have collaborated with some of the top leaders in the music industry like Pharrell, Todd Edwards, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, and also with haute-couture giant Saint Laurent Paris. There is no doubt that this collaborative project will greatly influence the way music is perceived by the mass and will perhaps be one of the most significant artwork of the 21st century. No biggie!

So while we all wait impatiently for their album to drop and for summer to come, let’s all get inspired with this “Random Access Memories” video serie, featuring some of the collaborators of the project. Talks about the west coast, 80′s pop synths, Donna Summers, traveling, music today, and much more! Enjoy!

We think it’s safe to say that Spring has (finally) sprung, opening the door for summer, blue skies, and new adventures! We couldn’t be more thankful for the sun and warmth this Sunday, although we’re a little bitter to be spending most of it inside… Under a ton of school books! Oh well, maybe our tans are not going to be on point, but at least our brains are going to get smarter!

On this note, we’re sharing with you this playlist featuring some of our current favourite artists like Shlohmo, Jesse Boykins, James Blake, Jai Paul, Poolside, D33J, Ciara, and of course, Daft Punk & Pharrell : a 50 minutes playlist of happiness! That’s what’s in for you, just a click away :

Have a beautiful week,

WISHLIST: SIDE BAR

I recently moved to Seattle a couple months ago and started working for Ladies & Gentlemen Studio who has done an amazing job exposing me to all the gems of the city. I was recently turned  onto all the great local designers here in Seattle, one of them being Urbancase.  I had the chance to meet and talk to Urbancase and see their work up close. At first glance, it is obvious that their work is simple and clean but what impresses me most is that their work is also very thoughtful and clever in the way it is constructed.

The Sidebar is a beautiful piece to store liquor, designed by Teroforma for Urbancase. It is constructed with solid walnut plywood interior, topped off with a corian counter. The corian is a really nice material choice, contrasting the organic grain of the walnut with a thin crisp profile. The main housing compartment is a lateral sliding panel which is ideal for your liquor and glasses to be stored. Additional storage for tools include a pull out drawer as well as a drop front door.

The thing I enjoy most about Sidebar and Urbancase itself is their attention to detail. The interior of the cabinet drawers is arguably as beautiful as the walnut exterior. A diamond like pattern covers the interior to resemble vintage luggage and handbags creating a soft padded look.

Find more of Urbancase’s here! Look for their work this Spring at NYC Design Week 2013 at the Wanted Gallery!

Easy Sunday – Modern Vampire Of The City

Easy Sundays, our dedicated day to music and sounds. Everything you need to keep the good vibes going and the soul grooving.

The new Vampire Weekend album is out, well almost! It’s officialy out tomorow but you can pre-order it on Itunes! The new album, Modern Vampires Of the city follows the sound of their previous album Contra, but has more melancholic tones. Mostly due to a change of instruments ; replacing guitar for pianos and organs, the evocation of faith and the decline of church in their lyrics while church choirs serve as chorus really adds a dramatic sound which we can’t wait to hear!

Have a Happy Sunday… also don’t forget to tell your mom you love her today!

Interesting fact : the cover art of the album is a 1966 photograph by Neal Boenzi of the smoggiest day in New York City history, on which the air pollution killed at least 169 people.

Here’s our two favorites from the album ; “Step” and “Hey Ya”.

Easy Sunday – Ode to “Bitch don’t kill my vibe”

Easy Sundays, our dedicated day to music and sounds. Everything you need to keep the good vibes going and the soul grooving.

Kendrick Lamar has made one of the best (and one of our personal favourite) hip hop song of the year with his famous “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe”. We never tought it would come down to it but he finally unveiled  the video of the song. The clip shows Lamar and friends attending an all-white funeral which turns into a party. Then, the clip finishes with the words “Death to Molly”, demonstrating the obvious meaning of the social theme through the eyes of Kendrick. The visuals are beautiful and the all white attire add a perfect polished touch to the video!

Also, make sure to listen to this great jazzy remix of Lamar’s song, made by IAMNOBODI  featuring The Clubcasa Chamber Orchestra.

One of our top musicians of the moment, Theophilus London, just released a videoclip for his new song “Rio” : a perfect Sunday track full of charm and warmness! The song features the Menahan Street Band, some amazing NYC musicians which amongst other things collaborated with the talented soul singer Charles Bradley on his 2011 debut album. The romantic and funky song genuinely transports us into a retro and dreamy mood… So enjoy it during your BBQ, your clean up session or your lazy day!

WISHLIST : DOUG JOHNSTON

Doug Johnston has taken a simple concept of sewing coiled cotton cord to create soft and comforting shapes and forms. He has developed creative, such clever solutions and design details to his work, that makes you which you would have thought of it first.

Johnston uses thick cotton cord to create thick walled baskets, bags, stools an most recently, his impressive hanging pendants which uses a combination of cotton cord as well as nylon cord. Evolving from the simple coil basket, Johnston has innovated ways to create fused organic shapes with several baskets combined into one. He has also come up with the idea of crafting handles for bags without breaking the continuation for the single rope cord… Which makes it extremely beautiful and practical!

His recent lights have impressed me with the way he perpetually continues to keep creating and innovating new uses for his coil forms. Through the use of different thread colors and levels of density of the thread, Johnston creates color patterns and texture to his work. Perfect for that unique summer accessory or interior decoration you we’re looking for!

Check out Dough Johnston’s work HERE and follow him on Instagram.
