We had the pleasure to hang out and photograph some of the “Piu Piu” members about a month ago… This crew of Montreal beatmakers is quite something of its own!
“Piu piu”, or simply another term to describe “beats”, is a place where electronic sounds and hip hop influences merge perfectly well together. What we like about this movement is their amazing beats – obviously – and also the fact that they are redefining electronic music as we know it today while taking it to another level. Inspired and fuelled by the L.A and West Coast beatmakers’ state of mind, the Piu Piu crew probably has nothing to do with the usual “DJ” stereotypes you have in mind. They are clever, funny, interested, laid back, and most of all, talented… And you will be able to experience all of that in a near future with the approach of the Piu Piu Documentary, a film by Aïsha C. Vertus whom we interviewed this summer, remember?
For now, they will be releasing their Beat Tape Vol.3 in the next few months, featuring both Montreal and West Coast producers. So here’s a little something for you ears, as well as the “Class of 2014″ photo shoot we did. The idea came from the fact that “Piu Piu” always tries to be ahead of time with some new and upcoming beats!
Enjoy!
